TRAX Trip – Gee Arm Fire Trail

Details:

TRAX Trip – Gee Arm Fire Trail

This is a challenging off-road route located in Wheeny Creek, within the Wollemi National Park. It is highly regarded by 4WD enthusiasts for its difficult terrain and remote wilderness views.

Trail Overview
– Location: Gees Arm South Trail, Wheeny Creek, NSW 2758.
– Best For: Serious 4WD driving.
– Difficulty: High B/A. It is specifically recommended for experienced 4×4 drivers
and modified vehicles only. The track feature large bouldery steps, steep hill
climbs, and “chicken tracks” that can still be hazardous. Lots of track building required.
– Admission: All vehicles must have a winch, full recovery gear, no roof top tents or
loads on the roof, 2” lift over standard (Disco’s on high setting) and traction
control/diff locks, lug type tyres, aggressive all terrains (with minimum 70% off road bias)!

4WD Requirements & Safety
This trail is notorious for its technical difficulty and risk of vehicle damage or rollovers.
– Vehicle Specs: A high-clearance 4WD with a lift, suitable off-road tyres, and lockers are strongly recommended. It is not suitable for soft-roaders or top-heavy vehicles due to “sideways action” and proximity to cliff edges.
– Gear: Essential items include recovery gear, tools, and a reliable navigation system.
– Group Travel: Do not travel this trail alone or at night.
– Access: Comleroy Road, Kurrajong Heights.
– Lookout: The track provides access to rugged lookouts overlooking the wilderness, though some drivers find the technical sections so time-consuming they do not reach the end.
– This track is impossible if wet!
The track is 7km long from Comleroy Road and it can take 4 to 5 hours to do the first 5 km, and then the last 2 km I have never been able to climb. So usually it is a full day of technical driving – it is in and out on the same track!

See you on the tracks
