Aberdeen to Hanging Rock trip
Friday 29 September – Monday 2nd October 2017.
We began at Aberdeen on Saturday 30th September – that’s just last Saturday. 4 vehicles were in the convoy:
* Discovery S2: Matt Smith with Jessica & Wiiliam with Kaelen & Jonah Saunders.
* Suzuki Grand Vitara: Alison Smith and Raeleigh & Bethanie Saunders.
* Nissan Navarra: Steve, Julie and Will Taylor.
* Pajero : Shane and Kylie Beatson, Olivia, Joel and Isabel.
A good crew, ready for anything, and that almost happened. The trip was great with just a few small glitches – like having to get Alison off to Scone hospital late Saturday night – Sunday morning! So that’s where that loss of an hour went to at 2:00am on Sunday morning!
Uneventful progress to Moonan Flat where we camped on Saturday night. Great place for a camp (unless you were heading off to a hospital!), where the children had a great time playing badminton, exploring the river and generally enjoying themselves.
Sunday the convoy headed off to Sheba Dam near Hanging Rock which proved a great place to camp, fall in, (I mean swim!) and also to have a nice camp fire with marshmallows being melted, burnt, roasted and, perhaps, eaten!
Monday we headed off for (ultimately) home, although the Beatson family headed further west so as to be able to have an extra week using the school holiday break. Monday morning saw us in Nundle, a delightful village which boasts a really great, old fashioned General Store which sold just about everything.
Observations: Great trip. Alison Smith survived, (Doctors sent her back on Sunday morning), Matt decided to play ‘chicken’ with at least 200 kangaroos while taking Alison off to hospital. The useless marsupials wanted to rearrange the Disco’s Bullbar (shouldn’t that be ‘Roo Bar’? [ed.]) and spotlights, and actually somewhat succeeded but without doing much injury to themselves.
All in all another great TRAX trip. Book in now for our next adventure.
