Sand Driving at Stockton Beach 2016.
Sat. 17th September 2016.
It was a great day, the sun was shining and perfect for beach driving. There were five vehicles, ten adults and seven children (some young adults) on the trip. Three of us met at the old toll gates and we met the others at the Metro service station Williamstown, where we purchased our permits. Someone said we should have met at ‘Maccas’, thinking the coffee would be better.
A short drive down Lavers Lane and we parked to air down our tyres and put on our sand flags before making our way down onto the beach. Down on the beach, we were heading up to the old ship wreck when I called the others to say Jon was stuck.
By the time the others returned, he had the recovery tracks out and was unstuck and ready to go again. We drove along the beach to ship wreck for a photo shoot and then up into the dunes where we drove around for a while. A couple of vehicles had to have a few attempts to get up one dune. You could see tracks everywhere. My four attempts were futile and I took the easy way up. On top of the dune we staked our spot and set up for lunch. The kids played in the sand and there was even kite flying. Jon changed a flat tyre. Turned out to be sand in the tyre monitoring cap. All in all, it was just a time to relax and take in the views.
After lunch, we made our way up the beach to Anna Bay. A 20km drive. The beach was lined with tracks. On the way we stopped at the ship wreck, dodged a few fishermen (persons) and stopped at ‘Tin City’. At Anna Bay we aired up before going to the café for afternoon tea. It was after 4pm when we decided to go home.
