Trip background information:-
On this trip we travel across the Great Divide a different way. Our trip will take use through Richmond, where we turn left into Castlereagh Rd and follow the road to Springwood. We will stop at Hawkesbury Lookout to take in the views back to Sydney.
At Wentworth Falls, we will take Tableland Road an unpaved (dirt) road that runs south from along the clifftops above Kedumba Walls. The road ends at McMahons Lookout (a short 800m walk), where you can stand some 500 m above Lake Burragorang. Here we will survey the huge reservoir that supplies most of Sydney’s water. There is also a shorter 300m walk past the weather station.
Back on the Great Western Highway, we turn off at Leura and travel via the Mount Hay Road to Mount Hay. Mount Hay has a dome-like shape at the summit and it can be found on the southern escarpment of the Grose Valley, one of the main valleys of the Blue Mountains. There is a walking track that goes to the top of the mountain ( depends on time).
The trip home will be via Mitchell’s Pass across Lennox Bridge. This was the third road to be built up the eastern escarpment of the Blue Mountains. The road is now one way and that way is home.
