What a day!<br>\u2022 As regards weather: perfect. Just right. Just enough cloud to stop the sun from being too hot, yet enough sun continually breaking through to make it pleasant.<br>\u2022 As regards to shelter: Thanks to President Matt Smith we had the advantage of a brand new 6 metre X 3 metre Gazebo. (Brand new and really good.)<br>\u2022 As regards to a great time: Couldn\u2019t have enjoyed it more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, read on\u2026. (as \u2018they\u2019 say!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Neil arrived first at 7:30am to hold a decent spot, but unlike most years there were almost no people there and by 9:00am there were still only a few groups there meaning that we had a very \u2018uncrowded\u2019 reserve.<br>By 8:30am other TRAX members began to drift in, firstly Matt followed by Alex Levshin which meant enough people to quickly erect the gazebo.<br>That done (all the hard work and setting out of chairs etc!) others began to arrive!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/trax.org.au\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Picture20.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/trax.org.au\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Picture20.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1895\" width=\"459\" height=\"346\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trax.org.au\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Picture20.jpg 320w, https:\/\/trax.org.au\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Picture20-300x226.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 459px) 100vw, 459px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Who came?<br>Altogether 21 people\u2026 being:<br>Matt &amp; Alison Smith<br>Phillip &amp; Linda Favaloro<br>Shane &amp; Kylie Beetson, Olivia, Joel &amp; Isabel<br>Neil &amp; Jane Flower<br>Jane &amp; Sally Parfitt<br>Ron Paton<br>Ron Owen<br>Alex Levshin<br>Danny Lee<br>Roger Riley<br>Richard Thompson, with Maud &amp; Reggie<br>Also, a fair swag of apologies from those not able to make it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">But what did we do? Well, what do you think? Remember, this is\/was the easiest trip of the year! Lovely bush, great water for canoeing or just watching, Lyre birds, (Alex and some others saw 3, Scrub turkeys, (ugh) too many to count, and\u2026. Wait for it\u2026 (drum roll please Mr. Editor),<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"151\" class=\"wp-image-1896\" style=\"width: 150px;\" src=\"https:\/\/trax.org.au\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Picture28.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trax.org.au\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Picture28.jpg 164w, https:\/\/trax.org.au\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Picture28-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/> no flies or Mozzies!!! Yep, didn\u2019t count 1 fly all day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then of course was the \u2018catch-up\u2019 chatter, exchange of 4WD details, tech. things, the places-to-go-and-where- we\u2019ve been topics, and of course, personal and family news.<br>Then came Lunch! At our last General Meeting our speaker from Polaris Instruments had donated a beautiful and quite expensive dash cam and committee decided to have \u2018draw\u2019 of those who were present to see who would take it home. Ron Paton\u2019s (corrected by Webmaster) name \u2018came out of the hat\u2019 as the winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But then came the sounds of whirring, buzzing, and grinding \u2013 like an army of gnats or blowflies as the owners of radio-controlled cars wormed their vehicles up for the TRAX 3rd Annual Radio-Controlled Car Races. Two types of races were being contested, namely the straight sprint race to see whose vehicle was the fastest over the measured course, followed by the off road, slalom and obstacle course. That was a test not only of the car but also of the driver\u2019s skill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Results:<br>Sprint course &#8211; Phillip Favaloro\u2019s \u2018Subaru Special.\u2019<br>Off road, slalom &amp; obstacle course &#8211; Joel Beetson\u2019s \u2018Land Rover Defender\u2019.<br>(Special mention must be made here of Shane Beetson\u2019s \u2018Off road-Bitza-Wollargorang-\u2018thing\u2019, which although fast, seemed to have a mind of its own. It did however manage to finish 2nd in this event! We believe that the \u2018Subaru Special\u2019 is still out there somewhere in the bush, bravely trying to find its way home.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/trax.org.au\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Picture26.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/trax.org.au\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Picture26.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1902\" width=\"306\" height=\"376\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>After the races it was \u2018skill time,\u2019 when our valiant Trip Leader produced his wooden \u2018cup &amp; ball\u2019 game and offered a prize to anyone who could get the ball into the cup. Everyone, including all the children, had about 3 tries but only one person succeeded, and he fervently claimed that it was \u2018just a fluke\u2019. But a lot of fun and laughter was enjoyed. We\u2019ll try it again next year!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/trax.org.au\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Picture27.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/trax.org.au\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Picture27.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1903\" width=\"340\" height=\"453\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But then it was the turn of the culinary experts. This was the 3rd Annual Afternoon Tea Bush Bake-Orf!<br>Things were grim this year \u2013 only 2 entrants, but what a competition! On one side Kylie Beetson and<br>Daughters, versus Linda Favaloro. The Beetsons with their crumbed biscuit pancakes and Linda with her<br>Chocolate crackle Pikelets. What a competition!<br>The judges were equally divided. What to do? It was a dead heat! No worries mates, your intrepid trip leader had one prize left but could it be divided into two? The prize was two pens in a cardboard box. Problem easily solved. Cut the box into halves (longways of course) and hey presto, 1 pen to each of the two contestants. (Next year I think that I will bring a slight surplus of prizes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, that was just about it. The day was drawing on and members began to make \u2018going home\u2019 noises. So, with a farewell prayer from the Chaplain we concluded another TRAX Christmas Gathering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You missed out?
