Trip background information:-

Hartley is one of the first rural settlements west of the Blue Mountains. The settlement of this area was significant for the development of inland Australia. Get there early and explore the village.

Vulcan State Forest covers an area of about around 31,000 hectares and is located south of Oberon. The area is popular for fishing, fossicking and 4WDing. You can fossick at Sapphire Bend for gems without a permit. Black Springs, on the Oberon Goulburn Road, is located within the Vulcan State Forest and has a lovely rest area. A good spot for afternoon tea before the drive back to Sydney.
